Dr. Michele Dolfi joined the IBM Research - Zurich Laboratory in February of 2017 as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Foundations of Cognitive Solutions group and was promoted to regular research staff member in September 2018 and to senior technical staff member (STSM) in 2023.
Since 2020 he is a technical lead in the AI for Knowledge group, focusing on knowledge engineering and understanding. Michele is one of the researchers who created the Deep Search platform, starting from its inception.
He earned his PhD in Theoretical Physics, his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degree in Physics at ETH Zurich in 2016, 2011 and 2009, respectively.
His expertise spans from quantum systems to cloud computing, high performance computing and artificial intelligence. During his studies he contributed a massive parallel open source application for strongly correlated quantum systems.
Michele's quotes:
«During my studies I used to look at the cond-mat section of arxiv.org every day. The community was posting about 30-40 papers a day. Now (in 2022) every day there are +200 papers. This motivated me in building a platform which could help me and everybody else exploring that knowledge!»
«I like bringing research assets to broader communities and products!»
In his leisure time, Michele enjoys volunteering works for various sport and education associations. From 2016 to 2020 he was the president of the Swiss Science Olympiads, where he lead a large number of volunteers as well as a team of professionals to promote and develop talents in scientific disciplines.
