Dr. Eyal Shnarch is a Senior Research Scientist at IBM Research - Israel, managing the Retrieval & Generation group.
Dr. Shnarch joined IBM Research to be part of Project Debater, the first AI system to debate humans on complex topics, with responsibility for its NLP pipeline and tools. Later he became a team lead in this project working on Argument Mining, Argument Quality, Weak Supervision, and Debate Rebuttal. The Debater project was published on the cover of Nature.
He then led Label Sleuth, an open-source no-code system for text labeling and text classifiers building, which requires no AI or programing knowledge - from unlabeled data to a working classifier in just a few hours.
Since 2021, he has managed a group of 10 researchers, leading projects in Generative AI; RAG, LLMs evaluation and application to real-world use cases. He co-leads the RAG sub-theme under the Language Technologies Theme.
Dr. Shnarch received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Bar Ilan University, where he worked on semantic inference under the supervision of Prof. Ido Dagan and Prof. Jacob Goldberger. There he developed algorithms for the acquisition of lexical semantic relations, proposed methods for the integration of knowledge resources and built probabilistic models for inference at the lexical level.
Overall, Dr. Shnarch is the co-author of around 50 peer-reviewed papers and patents, serving as a committee member in top ML and NLP conferences and journals.
