Dr. Jennifer Liang is a Physician Research Scientist working with AI researchers in the Healthcare and Life Sciences department at IBM Research to develop analytics for use in the medical domain based on natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning. In addition to her medical training, she also has experience in conducting clinical research at academic medical centers such as Johns Hopkins University of Medicine and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, supporting patient recruitment, screening, and data collection. Since joining IBM in 2014, she has supported researchers in creating new annotated datasets, developing and evaluating new analytics, and adapting existing technologies to new tasks, for several medical AI problems such as EHR question answering, problem list generation, clinical note summarization, and medication event extraction. She has published in several top NLP and medical informatics venues, including AAAI, EMNLP, and AMIA.
Her current research interest focuses on information extraction from clinical and biomedical text, and building applications to support clinical decision-making and accelerated drug discovery. Dr. Liang received her Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT and her MD from New York Medical College.
