Dr. Filippo Utro is a Senior Research Scientist in computational genomics within the Healthcare and Life Sciences research team at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. Filippo's research is focused on designing algorithms for various omics data on different diseases and organisms.
Filippo has authored over fifty scientific publications and holds several issued patents and pending applications. Filippo is an avid reviewer for journals and conferences and serves as an editor for the Scientific Reports and BMC BioInformatics. Some of Filippo's work has been featured in the 100 Icons of Progress celebrating IBM 100 years (2011).
His research involves computational methods for analyzing various types of biological data. Filippo graduated from the Computer Science department at University of Palermo, Italy. General research interests but not limited to algorithms, bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, -omics, machine learning.
Filippo has been working on designing and developing new reusable technologies in cancer drug resistance analysis that have broader applications to other disease areas, including AI driven feature selection, and multimodal data analysis.
Recently, Filippo has been working on leading and performing research efforts on quantum computing application (e.g. Quantum Machine Learning) to the Healthcare and Life Science domain.
