Eduardo Castro joined the Neuroimaging group of the Computational Biology Center (CBC) at IBM in 2016. His goal is to incorporate his expertise in machine learning to achieve a better understanding of mental disorders.
He received his PhD degree in Computer Engineering at the University of New Mexico in 2013. During this time he worked as a research assistant in collaboration with the Mind Research Network. His work involved the design and implementation of predictive models applied to functional magnetic resonance imaging that provided an insight of the underlying pathological processes involved in schizophrenia. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, he worked directly with the Mind Research Network as a postdoctoral fellow, extending his work to the analysis of changes in the structure of the brain, with a special emphasis in gray matter degeneration.
At IBM, Eduardo's goal is to build upon his skills, the neuroscience expertise of other members of the Neuroimaging group at the CBC and the disease-specific knowledge of his collaborators to devise methods to uncover the underlying mechanisms of disease progression and to provide actual clinical value to these discoveries.
