Technology leverage for ultra-low power information systems
Abstract
The future of the computer and communications industries emerges to be a world filled with numerous hand-held, wireless connected products, with sophisticated compute power. Continued scaling allows the integration of many complex functions, while limited battery energy and small form factors require low power operation. This paper will discuss how deep submicron silicon technology can be leveraged to gain two orders of magnitude in power×delay product for logic and in power per bit for memory applications. A speech recognition I/O system will be used as a typical application.
