Multi-party collaborative debug service for Java application

Abstract

Along with collaborative development in Java development, collaborative remote debug without sharing all the source code becomes a new requirement. Current approach wastes too much time in network communication and is also constrained by network port. This paper proposes a system and method to support multiple-party collaborative remote debug without sharing all the source code and without port constraint. A centralized Server Agent manages the registration of each organization and breakpoints in the source code, which localizes the debug by serializing related context object and flexible user control interface. We also discuss a centralized debug system for multiple-party Java application/program debug with a server agent in charging of session registration, control and scheduling, and Client agents in charging of context providing/consuming, communicate with local development environment and JPDA. With the method, debug process can be totally localized to the source code owner thus the debug efficiency can be greatly improved. © 2011 IEEE.
