Colorimetric characterization of ridge fringe field multi-domain homeotropic LCD
Abstract
The viewing-angle dependence of TFTLCD color characteristics have been studied for a number of Ridge Fringe-Field Multi-Domain Homeotropic (RFFMH) LCD. The ridges that were evaluated include the Y-inverse-Y, Single Line and 3X structures, the Color performance was judged by hue and chroma shifts in the CIE 1976 space. In the dark state, the 3X structure with compensation film has slight improvement or similar color performance in comparison to Y-inverse-Y and Single Line structure with compensation film. In the bright state, the 3X structure has better color performance than the Y-inverse-Y and Single Line structures in the vertical viewing direction. Additionally, our measurements show that color performance for all structures in the dark state can be significantly improved by adding a compensation film. Measurements also reveal color performance can be improved through reduction in cell gap operation.
