Dr. Paolo Fraccaro is a certified Distinguished Data Scientist at IBM Research Europe with extensive research experience in Data Science and AI applied to solve a range of scientific and business problems. He has contributed to the development and commercialization of key technologies and solutions, such as the Environmental Intelligence Suite and Geospatial Foundation Models, among others.
Paolo's research interests lie at the intersection of technologies (AI and Cloud) applied to geospatial and sustainability, agriculture, remote sensing, healthcare, and more. He has authored several peer-reviewed journals and currently leads the development of scalable tools, pre-built workflows, and models to enable data scientists and developers to easily fine-tune and inference ("promote") large-scale AI models (aka. Foundational Model) for geospatial and sustainability domains.
Before joining IBM, Paolo obtained a BSc and MSc in biomedical engineering from the University of Genoa (Italy), and a PhD in Health Data Science from the University of Manchester (UK), where he also spent some of his post-doc years looking at how geolocation data and AI could be used to support people with severe mental illness.
