Dr. Nick Fuller currently serves as the Vice President of AI and Automation at IBM Research. In this role, he leads a dynamic global team dedicated to creating and delivering LLM and Agent-based innovation to IBM’s automation software portfolio powered by Granite models and watsonx.ai. His expertise in management software spans various domains, including digital business processes, application modernization, IT systems, and asset lifecycle management. Nick has 20+ years client-facing experience that has culminated in differentiation of IBM’s IT Automation portfolio, launch of groundbreaking products in IBM and Red Hat’s Modernization portfolios, and IBM’s Research strategy in Edge Computing. Additionally, his strategic foresight has also played a pivotal role in differentiating five successive CMOS generations, catering to the evolving needs of IBM Systems and OEM clients.
Nick is an IBM Master Inventor holding over 75 patents, has co-authored 80 technical publications and has been cited on over 3300 occasions. Additionally, as a recognized thought leader, he routinely provides commentary on industry trends in prestigious outlets such as Forbes, IEEE Spectrum and Techspot. Nick received his Bachelor of Science in Physics and Math from Morehouse College (’97) and his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Columbia University (’02). He lives in Long Island, New York with his wife and two sons and in his personal time loves playing soccer, listening to music, travelling, and writing.
