Recrystallization of (001) oriented gold films into (111) orientation
Abstract
During annealing of (001) oriented single crystal gold films the anisotropy of the surface energy caused a transformation of the films into polycrystalline (111) films. The observations suggest an oriented nucleation mechanism which is connected with twins in the (001) matrix. Two distinct orientation relationships were observed. They do not correspond to special orientations with high densities of coincidence sites, but they can be interpreted as relationships with low densities of coincidence sites which are compatible with a dominant tendency to form (111) surfaces. © 1972.
