Perforated Microring Resonators for Enhanced Sensing

Abstract

We suggest that implementation of sub-wavelength gradient effective refractive index structures, first and second order Bragg grating 1D photonic crystals into silicon-on-insulator microring resonators increases the light-matter interaction and the sensitivity of bio and gas sensors. The recent results on modeling, fabrication and characterization of perforated microring resonators are presented.
