Large and small signal modulation properties of RED VCSELs
Abstract
The recently developed red vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) have potential applications in consumer electronics. It is only the VCSEL that has the greatest potential to be the first low cost, mass produced VCSEL. It will be of great interest to study the modulation properties of red VCSELs and understand their advantages. The structure, growth and DC properties together with the small and large signal modulation properties of red VCSELs are presented and it can be shown that they have a small signal bandwidth of over 2GHz and be modulated to a large signal up to 1Gb/s.
