Holographic data storage has high density data storage capacity with fast optical access and high data transfer rates. In holographic data storage, two-dimensional data pages from spatial light modulators are imaged with an object laser beam onto a corresponding detector array matched pixel-to-pixel. The imaging is a complicated task if the page is of one thousand by one thousand pixels in size, but the holographic storage demonstrated its capacity for error free read out of a data page of the same size in one millisecond for a data rate of one Gigabit per second.
