High-resolution soft x-ray excitation spectra of 3d-metal phthalocyanines
Abstract
Sharp core-level excitons (1s → π*) are observed below the carbon 1s (289.5 eV) and nitrogen 1s (403.6 eV) threshold and broader features (1s → σ*) above threshold for metal-free and 3d-metal phthalocyanines (PCs). The fine structure of prominent sharp lines (white lines) originating from metal 2p → 3d, 4s transitions was resolved for MnPC at 640 cV to CuPC at 933 eV. The results demonstrate the excellent possibilities of high-resolution soft X-ray spectroscopy as a site-specific local probe of empty electronic states in complex organic compounds. © 1985.
