Two methods useful for detecting surface enhanced Raman (SER) spectra of water on Ag and Cu electrodes are described. The first method uses potential difference spectroscopy to record the SER spectrum of water on a Cu electrode. The second method obtains a SER spectrum of water on an emersed silver electrode. Emersion is a promising technique for reducing the interference from the Raman scattering of bulk water. © 1981.
