Curriculum for technical communication in the computer industry

Abstract

Within the field of technical communication, a prominent specialization is in the area of computers. As recent graduates from technical communications programs, we found that our experiences as technical writers in the computer industry varied from that of our education and internships, and we were curious to see if others felt the same. We surveyed graduates from various technical communications programs who graduated within the last 5 years and who work in the Silicon Valley. We found that there were key areas in which their education and internship experience varied from that of their first job.
