Training for trouble

Abstract

The author discusses the importance of realism in training emergency teams. He presents the aims of a four-day Fire Fighting Course (certified) which is run by one of Scotland's leading fire brigade training schools. He also discusses the lessons learned by his team members from this course. To those who are responsible for the effective operation, safety, and the welfare of emergency teams, he suggest they should consider external training courses organized by professionals such as the fire brigade. As well as producing a more professional and capable team, they will be in a position to reassess their team's capabilities and character.
