The Australian Cheese Technology Program - Cheese science delivering solutions to industry challenges
Abstract
The Australian Cheese Technology Program is a research consortium formed in 2001 by cheese manufacturers, industry organisations and research organisations. Its mission to deliver an industry focussed research program in cheese science and technology is illustrated by examples of projects and knowledge that the ACTP has developed in the past five years. The projects have addressed industry needs for underpinning R&D in areas that are relevant to production for the export as well as the domestic market. Strategic focus areas and program selection mechanisms are important tools to maintain the continued industry relevance and to continue to expand on key competencies and technology platforms accessible to the program. The ACTP dissemination and technology transfer program is illustrated using the example of a project aimed at the increase of milk solid levels in cheese milk.
