ROBOT SENSORS AND AML.

Abstract

In most assembly applications, the uses of sensing fall under one or more of the following: (1) to detect small variations in location; (2) to control robot motion; (3) to detect jamming; (4) to detect the presence or absence of an object; (5) to allow the use of simple tooling; and (6) to control transfer lines, or feeders. Most assembly robots are capable of the simpler tasks listed, but the combination of sensing and manipulator control into an easily usable software system is less common. AML (A Manufacturing Language) is a high-level, subroutine-oriented, interpretive language, developed by IBM for use with the IBM 75XX series of manipulators. The paper discusses the use of AML with robots.
