Optimal control of bacterial growth

Abstract

A stabilizing feedback control is designed for Haldane-Monod model of microbial growth. The controlled process is optimal in the sense that it approaches the maximum production steady-state from any initial state, while the amount of microorganisms produced in transients is also maximized. Data from a series of experiments are given and used to adjust the model parameters. Satisfactory agreement between experimental and model transients is obtained. © 1972.
