MVS and UNIX database performance comparison based on industry standard TPC-D benchmark
Abstract
TPC-D is the newest and also the first decision-support benchmark to be announced by Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC). This paper introduces this benchmark with an overview of its logical database structure and workload profile. Then some TPC-D data was measured from three systems to compare the performance characteristics between MVS and UNIX database systems in decision-support applications. The MVS systems measured include both single-CPU and multi-CPUs, and were used to analyze the effect of parallelism in this type of applications.
