Extending the compact disk format to high capacity for video applications
Abstract
The error rate, jitter and servo performance of a standard CD ROM drive, modified to read a disk with 2 data layers were investigated. By proper amplification of the signals to compensate for the reduced reflectivity of the data layers and by modifying the control of the drive, reading of the individual data layers was accomplished with acceptable error rates. Extension of this approach to many layers is discussed.
