Autonomic computing: The next era of computing

Autonomic computing was introduced as a new thrust for the information technology (IT) industry. It was described as a means by which machines became self-managing, self protecting and self-optimizing computers, concentrating on users requirement and handling resources more efficiently. It provides a larger degree of automation than provided by most vendors and requires the use of open standards. The identifying characteristics of an autonomic computing system were also presented.
