Amorphous GdNdFe bubble films with good temperature characteristics
Abstract
Nd was found to couple ferromagnetically to the transition-metal moment in the amorphous rare-earth-transition-metal alloys. A mean-field theoretical analysis of these alloys shows that temperature-independent magnetic behavior can be expected in (Gd1-yNdy)1-xFex alloys for a wide range of x and y values. Experiments on a number of film compositions confirm this. A number of other problems associated with deposition and annealing processes occur. It is suggested that other alloys containing Nd may prove more suitable as amorphous alloys for bubble-domain applications.
