Maciel Zortea is a Research Scientist at IBM Research laboratory in Brazil, where he has worked since 2016. His work focuses on developing methods based on image analysis and machine learning to process and derive information from remote sensing data, to create solutions for digital agriculture and environmental and climate monitoring. During his career, he developed practical approaches to tackle dimensionality reduction, hyperspectral unmixing, classification, and object recognition. His work led to research prototypes, publications, and patents. Dr. Zortea earned a Ph.D. from the Università degli Studi di Genova, with a curriculum in Space Science and Engineering in 2007.
