Dr. Jones is a Senior Research Scientist in the Applied Quantum Science group in IBM Quantum. He is also the IBM Quantum Technical Lead and member of the Joint Steering Committee of the Health Care and Life Sciences Quantum Working Group (HCLS QWG).
Dr. Jones completed his Ph. D. in theoretical/computational organic chemistry at the University of California Los Angeles before completing postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined IBM Research as a postdoctoral researcher and became a Research Staff Member, then manager of the Quantum Computational Sciences team.
His responsibilities involve research engagements with strategic partners in the IBM Quantum Network. As the IBM Quantum Technical Lead of the HCLS QWG, Dr, Jones engages with organizations in industry, academia, and government labs to explore quantum technologies for the healthcare and life sciences sector.
Dr. Jones is a computational chemist by training with interests in performing quantum chemistry with quantum computers, catalysis, predictions of molecular properties, and the formation of functional advanced materials and polymer degradation.
He has received several Technical Achievement Awards from IBM (including three Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards) and was awarded an FP Global Thinkers Award: Innovator Category by Foreign Policy Magazine in 2016 for his achievements in sustainability and recycling.
