Inductance and domain configuration of write heads
Abstract
Domain control of write head yokes is important for high frequency applications. The ideal configuration is one that enables magnetic flux propagation through magnetization rotation rather than wall motion. In this paper, we systematically studied the effects of stress on domain configurations of a write head with a plated Ni45Fe55 top yoke. The domain configurations were correlated with the inductance data. It was found that applying tensile stress along the yoke width direction changes the domain configuration from 'axial' to 'edge-closure' and improves the inductance rolloff of the write head significantly.
