In this paper, we present optical constants of gold (the real and imaginary parts of the complex index of refraction n ̂=(1-δ)+ik) omputed from transmission diffraction data taken with gold gratings at SSRL in February and March of 1981. Our error analysis implies maximum uncertainties of about ±8% for δ and about ±20% for k over the entire 280 to 640 eV range. Strong discrepancies between our and previously published values of δ are indicated, and a previously unreported minimum is observed in k in the vicinity of 600 eV. © 1983.
