AI for 3D Radar – Approaches and Opportunities
Abstract
We will present the basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) for 3D Radar. The presentation is targeted to general audiences in the microwave community who are not necessarily experts in AI/ML. To start with, the presentation addresses basic questions such as: what is AI/ML. Why are AI/ML tools relevant for 3D Radar. How can AI/ML be applied for sensing using RF, and how can it be adopted in microwave circuits and systems. We also address what the benefits and limitations of using AI/ML in microwave technologies are. We will introduce basic types of machine learning methods such as fully connected network, convolutional neural networks, long-short term memory networks, and the combination of these networks. Examples of applications of AI/ML to 3D Radar will be presented and will give some intuition on the reasoning behind the chosen DNN architectures.
