Abstract
There are three things that future generations may never experience: the smell of books, the sound of a computer, and the sanctuary of privacy. These human considerations are all unintended consequences of computing. The Web extra at http://youtu.be/Vkqkn0i5jgo is an audio podcast of author Grady Booch reading his On Computing column, in which he discusses how some unintended consequences of computing might be that future generations never experience the smell of books, the sound of a computer, or the sanctuary of privacy. © 2013 IEEE.
