MONITOR AUTOMATION AT IBM GREENOCK.

Abstract

Since it's establishment in 1951 manufacturing typewriters, the IBM Manufacturing Plant at Greenock has grown to be a high volume production facility for the manufacture of display products. This paper briefly examines the evolution of the products and their associated manufacturing processes through this period, but focuses mainly on today's highly automated production lines and the products specifically designed to be manufactured on them. The Automated Monitor facility is used as the detailed example. As well as describing the concepts behind these processes the presentation will address the experience gained during their introduction and some of the valuable lessons learned for the future.
