Molecular composites and molecular order of rigid polyimides
Abstract
In order to overcome the poor interfacial adhesion properties while maintaining all the desired properties due to the ordered nature of rigid polyimides, we have prepared the composite polyimide films that contain both rigid and flexible polyimide structures. The precursors of both rigid and flexible polyimides form a single phase mixture in the solutions that can be spin-coated or doctor-bladed to prepare polymer films of desired thinkness and then cured thermally in a conventional manner. The composite polyimide films thus prepared are found to exhibit the combination of all the desired properties of rigid and flexible polyimides. This paper presents the results of molecular order in different rigid polyimides, obtained by the analyses of x-ray diffraction experiments, and then show the structure-properties relationships of composite polyimide films based on the poly(p-phenylene pyromellitimide).
