Laser processing to adjust the suspension preload of magnetic recording head stack assemblies
Abstract
A new manufacturing technology that allows the gram load of a suspension carrying the slider to be adjusted in situ in a head stack assembly (HSA) or head gimble assembly (HGA) is presented. This technology has been successfully used to manufacture several of IBM's recent rigid disk drives products for ensuring a tight grain load distribution.
