IMPROVED CONTROL-ACQUISITION SCHEME FOR THE IEEE P896 BUS.
Abstract
Modules connected to a general-purpose bus have to have the means of acquiring control of the bus in order to carry out data transactions. In the P896 bus the control-acquisition scheme has undergone several changes in the course of its development, but the version that has received most public exposure is the one proposed in 1983. Since then, further improvements have been made, and the purpose of this note is to explain what they are and the advantage that they give. As a background, the main features of the Draft 6. 2 scheme are reviewed. The reasons for the changes are then presented, and the changes themselves are described.
