FIBER DISPLACEMENT SENSORS FOR METROLOGY AND CONTROL.
Abstract
Optical fiber sensors are of interest for the measurement of physical parameters such as acoustic and electromagnetic fields. The germane fiber properties, namely, ruggedness, small size, and dielectric construction, are, however, equally desirable for industrial and laboratory mechanical metrology. This review contains a classification of the types of metrological sensors possible with fibers, including applications to measurement of submicroscopic to kilometer dimensions.
