Diffusion-based separation using non-uniform electroosmotic flow
Abstract
We present a novel microfluidic device that leverages non-uniform electroosmotic flow (EOF) patterning to achieve highly efficient diffusion-based separation of particles and molecules. In contrast to existing separation methods that rely on microfabricated structures, our method uses an unobstructed fluidic chamber and achieves separation through spatial modulation of the surface charge and the associated EOF. The method is particularly effective for purification of low-diffusivity species.
