Cryogenic Electronics and Materials for the Quantum Era

Abstract

Several industry roadmaps have recently emerged showing ambitious targets for the number of qubits in quantum computers over the next couple of years. High qubit-density quantum computers will require sophisticated system architectures to enable a large number of readout and control channels. The use of cryogenic electronics – devices, circuits and new materials – can help to reduce the complexity of the overall architecture and improve its scalability. In this talk, key aspects of the scalability of quantum computers will be reviewed, and important applications of cryogenic electronics in this context will be shown. In particular, III-V materials show promising and unique properties at low temperatures and may enable tailored cryogenic devices and circuits with superior performance.
