Application of computer simulation to improve the optical performance of liquid crystal displays
Abstract
The use of computer simulation in the improvement of the optical performance of liquid crystal displays is analyzed in the article. Liquid crystal display optics is discussed. The paper presents a one-dimensional simulation for the LC-direction deformation profile, and the viewing angle contour plot for a 240-deg STN cell having entrance polarizer angles at 75 deg and exit polarizer angle at 130 deg. Schematics are given of a pixel electrode design and its polarizer configuration for a multidomain homeotropic LCD.
