Transmission code for high-speed fibre-optic data networks
Abstract
A new DC-balanced 8B/10B code for packet transmission on fibre-optic links optimises data integrity, efficiency and implementation cost. It translates eight bits into ten with bounds of five and six on run length and digital sum variation, respectively. Encoders and decoders built with 380 ECL 10K-series gates have passed tests at 20 Mbytes/s. © 1983, The Institution of Electrical Engineers. All rights reserved.
