Thin Film Head With Staggered Pole Tips
Abstract
In order to further extend the limit on high track densities using a combination of magnetoresistive read heads and inductive write heads, write heads with track width down to micron range are required. This paper reports the design and test results of thin-film inductive heads with track widths down to the sub-micron range. The basic design is to use the overlap of pole tips to define the track width, thereby relieving photolithography constraints. Heads have been fabricated and tested, and results show good writability and track definitions. © 1991 IEEE
