Thermal proximity sensing for hard disks
Abstract
The thermal proximity sensing (TPS) to detect image defects on a hard disks surface was discussed. It was found that the calibration of the head voltage as a function of head-disk gap was critical for quantitative application of the TPS effect. The analysis showed that by monitoring head temperature, the topographic information about the disk surface was obtained.
