Thermal drive apparatus for direct vacuum tunneling experiments
Abstract
A thermal drive apparatus is described which has been used for direct vacuum tunneling experiments where two electrodes are brought to within 10-20 Å of each other. This drive has shown excellent stability against low-frequency vibrations and appears to have less than 1-Å instability over periods of hours.
