The Universal Remote Console: A Universal Access Bus for Pervasive Computing
Abstract
The adoption of the universal remote console (URC) standard, that will enable consistent, personalized access to devices and services available in a pervasive computing environment, is discussed. The URC standard will facilitate the development and deployment of such devices that can act as URC for an equally varied range of Targets. The standards will let the users to control any number of electronic and information technology devices in their environment. URC can also provide output interfaces that are all visual, all tactile, or all verbal, because the URC standard specifies a Target user interface's content independently from the form in which it is presented.
