Abstract
This note supplements a recent analysis of the bistable ballast resistor, by Ross and Litster. Their discussion of static phase boundaries is extended to the case of motion with uniform velocity. The existence of an effective potential, entirely analogous to equilibrium, and dependent on detailed balance, is questioned. © 1977 The American Physical Society.
