Abstract

Impact printers are so commonplace that it is difficult to stir up any excitement regarding this ancient method of producing hardcopy. This paper shows the major barriers to large performance improvements. The emphasis is on print speed. We also show that a discussion of print speed is not complete without consideration of print quality.
