Simulation of human problem-solving
Abstract
SIMULATING human problem-solving on a digital computer looks deceptively simple. All one must do is program computers to solve problems in such a manner that the computer employs the identical strategies and tactics that humans do. This will probably prove to be as simple in theory and as hard in actual practice as was the development of reliable digital computers. One of the purposes of this paper is to describe a few of the pitfalls that seem to lie in the path of anyone trying to program machines to "think.".
