SCANNING TUNNELING MICROSCOPY.
Abstract
Scanning tunneling microscopy is a new technique to investigate details of surfaces down to the atomic level. It explores the topography and some electronic properties depending on the chemistry of materials with unprecedented resolution, e. g. , 1/100 of an atomic diameter perpendicular and one atomic diameter parallel to the surface investigated.
