The products of the reaction of tetrasulfur tetranitride depend strongly on the reaction conditions. Recently it has been shown that gas-phase bromination of solid S4N4 causes polymerization to conducting (SNBr0,4)x while reaction with liquid bromine leads to a stable tribromide S4N3Br3.4 In contrast the reaction of S4N4 with bromine in carbon disulfide solution results in a mixture of S4N3Br3, S4N3Br, and a novel ionic compound CS3N2Br2. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
