POLYMERIZATION OF 1-(TRIMETHYLSTANNYL)ALKYL METHACRYLATES: A NEW CLASS OF ORGANOTIN POLYMERS.
Abstract
The materials prepared were homopolymers and copolymers of 1-(trimethylstannyl)alkyl methacrylates. This is a new class of methacrylate polymers which have a trimethyltin group substituted on the 1-position of the ester side chain, in contrast to conventional organotin methacrylates where tin is bonded directly to oxygen. This paper discusses the synthesis and characterization of these materials, as well as a unique degradative chain transfer to polymer process which occurs in the polymerization.
